Meet the creative force behind Threadline

Delve into the journey of David Gordon, the creative producer, writer, researcher, and editorial maker dedicated to shaping thoughtful, idea-led work in audio and cultural media.

My journey into audio and creative media

I came to this work through a lifelong interest in story, media, culture, and how ideas are shaped. My background is in creative media, where I developed experience across radio production, image, media analysis, editing, scriptwriting, and videography. Throughout this work, I became especially interested in the point where research, structure, sound, and writing meet – the place where a raw idea becomes something clear, engaging, and finished. Plenty of people generate thousands of good ideas a day, but very few are able to bring form to them. I've worked on audio, script, multimedia, and video projects, which have taught me how much creative work depends on finding the right shape. A good project is rarely about just having a good idea; it's about knowing what the idea is really, who it is for, and how to bring it into focus. That's what led me to create Threadline – a way of threading together my own expertise in writing, research, podcasting, and filming, which are editorial and culturally relevant. There is a thread to stories and culture.

What I enjoy most in my work

There is a thread to everything I see running through a conversation, a piece of cultural work, a voice, or a place. I enjoy identifying the thread, finding the threadline, and turning it and weaving it into something compelling. The trick is finding the right form, whether it's written or audio. I like working with sound, image, and words. I like the practical work of finding and weaving it into. That might mean finding a loose podcast idea and developing it into a clear premise. It could be structuring an episode or shaping a script, researching, editing copy, or helping somebody work out what. I enjoy when a constellation of ideas comes together, when they go from scattered to unified, when a title or opening line gives a piece of work its essence, when audio starts to find its rhythm. I like things that are thoughtful, but clarifying, writing, developing, and bringing material into focus.

My unique approach to creative production

I don't approach creative work as churn; I approach it with attention. I don't approach it as generic content. I want your message to be understood. I will find a thread running through what you are really trying to say and bring that into focus, bring that forward. My strength is combining auditory clarity with sensitivity to story at its core. I can help you make your project clear and more finished without losing its essence. I'm interested in thoughtful work that has a pulse, feeling creative and alive, and keeping attention.

"David has an exceptional ability to weave disparate ideas into a coherent and impactful narrative. His focus on the 'thread' truly brings projects to life."

Who I work with and projects I'm excited about

I work with creative producers, artists, and small community organisations who need help developing or shaping an idea. I mostly enter projects at the stage where something is interesting but not fully formed yet, where help is needed finding a clear premise or a strong, sharp copy, or more confident, uncertain direction. I'm especially interested in radio and podcast, audio-based cultural projects, and work that sits between story, research, and sound. The projects I'm most interested in are ones that are attempting to answer something, articulate a point of view, or explore a human story or a subject that deserves to be handled with care and depth.
